Paris Hilton Pokes Fun at McCain in Spoof Campaign Ad | WENN
7th August 2008 |
| |
Paris Hilton has poked fun at presidential candidate John McCain in a new online skit after the Republican used her image in a campaign video attack on his opponent Barack Obama. The socialite has filmed a spoof campaign ad for comedy Web site FunnyOrDie.com, in which she poses in a skimpy bikini on a pool lounger, while offering her energy policy ideas for America. Hilton, who was enraged when McCain used her in an attack on Obama without her permission, says, 'Hey, America, I'm Paris Hilton and I'm a celebrity too, only I'm not from the olden days (McCain) and I'm not promising change like that other guy (Obama). I'm just hot. 'But then that wrinkly white-haired guy used me in his campaign ad, which I guess means I'm running for President. So thanks for the endorsement, white-haired dude. 'I want America to know that I'm, like, totally ready to lead.' She then picks up a magazine and adds, 'And now I want to present my energy policy for America, just after I finish reading this article on where I can fly to get the best tan... Oh, Maui!' And then the socialite proves she's no dumb blonde by detailing how she will solve America's energy crisis. She explains, 'Barack wants to focus on new technology to cut foreign oil dependency and McCain wants offshore drilling. 'Well, why don't we do a hybrid of both candidates' ideas? We can do limited offshore drilling with strict environmental oversight while creating tax incentives to get Detroit making hybrid and electric cars. 'That way the offshore drilling carries us until the new technologies kick in, which would then create new jobs and energy independence. Energy crisis solved.'Hilton concludes the skit by offering up R&B singer Rihanna as a possible vice president and suggesting she might paint the White House pink, adding, 'I hope that's cool with you guys.' |

7th August 2008 |
| |
Actor Shia LaBeouf will check into rehab to help his chances of beating a drunk-driving conviction, according to reports. The 22-year-old star suffered serious hand injuries and was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) after a serious car crash in Hollywood on July 27. Investigators have ruled that the other driver caused the accident by running a red light, but LaBeouf is still facing a stiff sentence for drunk driving when he appears in court later this month--and he's prepared to do anything to help his cause, reports the New York Post. The newspaper claims LaBeouf is readying himself for rehab because 'judges like to see it (rehab).' A spokesperson for the actor--who checked out of the hospital on Saturday--declined to comment on the allegations, adding, 'Right now, we're focusing on Shia's hand.' |

Kevin Smith Wins Appeal for Film Rating | WENN
7th August 2008 |
| |
Filmmaker Kevin Smith has won an appeal to lower the cinema rating for his comedy Zack and Miri Make a Porno. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) board members had initially given the comedy, starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks, an adults-only certification of NC-17, which would have prohibited people younger than 17 from seeing it. The Clerks director then censored two of the movie's sex scenes involving co-stars Jason Mewes and Katie Morgan, but failed to convince the board to lower the rating to an R. He subsequently launched an appeal against the decision--and on Tuesday the MPAA announced that its appeals panel, which is separate from the ratings board, had screened the movie, about two friends who launch an amateur porn studio, and decided to revise the rating to an R. Smith explains, 'We didn't set out to make an NC-17 film. That's just commercial suicide... 'They felt it was rather sexually graphic. My point is, it was comically graphic. All the sex in the movie with the exception of one scene is very cartoonish, very campy. It wasn't designed to titillate.' And Smith is confident the title alone will filter out audiences who could be offended by the content: 'Anybody not inclined to see a movie with `Porno' in the title is not going to see it, so it kind of regulates itself to a degree. And anybody who is going is not going to be surprised by what they see.' The new rating will allow those under 17 to watch the film, due later this year, in the company of an adult. It is not the first time Smith has gone to battle to reduce his films' ratings. His 1994 debut Clerks was originally stamped with an NC-17 that was lowered to an R on appeal, and his 2004 romantic comedy Jersey Girl was brought down to PG-13 from an R rating. |

| |
Tom Cruise is set to shock fans in new movie Tropic Thunder--with his foul mouth. The usually clean-cut star will use 'colorful language' in his role as a studio boss in the comedy, which stars Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. Stiller reveals, 'We knew we were locked into an R-rating from the language in the beginning of the movie anyway, from all the war-movie dialogue. 'You just have to do that if you're doing a war movie. I think a lot of these studio guys talk like that. I know from personal experience. I have heard people in movie studios curse.' Cruise will be almost unrecognizable as the overweight, balding executive in the film. |

But he adds the actor remained in good spirits despite being surrounded by emergency crews at the scene. He says, 'They had to use the jaws of life to extract him from the vehicle. He was lucid, conscious. He was talking, joking with some of the rescue workers at one point.' Freeman and Meyer were reportedly airlifted from the scene and admitted to the Regional Medical Center (The Med) in Memphis, Tennessee. The Shawshank Redemption actor is being held in the highest trauma unit there and remains in serious condition, according to the facility's spokeswoman, Kathy Stringer. Steve Carell and Seth Rogen as the New Ghostbusters? | Kit Bowen
31st July 2008 |
| |
Say it isn’t so! According to an Internet rumor (are they any other kind these days?), funnymen Steve Carell and Seth Rogen may join a new version of the comedy classic Ghostbusters. Reported by DreadCentral.com, who quotes “a reliable source, who cannot be named,' Carell and Rogen will join the original four Ghostbusters--Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson--for a third film. The Web site says the original GhostBusters stars will hand over their 'proton packs' and hand over the reins to the newbies for more ghostbustin’ adventures. Could it work? Probably. Should it be made? Probably not. The age-old question begs to be asked: Why mess with a classic? |
